For the determination of coefficient of expansion of various metals. Two cast iron end pieces joined by two metal rods having support for plated brass tube 500 x 25 mm, Length x Diameter, with riffled inlet and outlet tube for connection to a steam supply and tubule for thermometer. One end piece fitted with a spherometer reading to 0.005 mm and the other end with a contact screw. The brass tube encloses the rod of whose coefficient of expansion is to be determined, with rubber corks on both ends. The end pieces are provided with terminals for connecting to a bell or galvanometer for indicating the exact point of contact of the screw. Supplied with three rods steel, brass and copper, but without galvanometer, bell, cell or thermometer.
